Lamayuru Monastery Tour

Lamayuru Monastery, also known as Yuru Monastery, is the oldest and largest monastery in Ladakh, located about 125 km west of Leh on the Srinagar–Leh highway. Famous for its dramatic “Moonland” landscape and the annual Yuru Kabgyat masked dance festival, it is a major spiritual and cultural center of Tibetan Buddhism in the region.

Sakyamuni Buddha:

 It is famous for its connection to Sakyamuni Buddha Lamayuru Monastery in Ladakh is one of the oldest and largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, affiliated with the Drikung Kagyu sect, and it houses important images of Sakyamuni Buddha along with other deities. It is a major spiritual and cultural site, famous for its masked dance festivals and its dramatic setting in the Himalayas.

Wall Painting:

Lamayuru Monastery in Ladakh is renowned for its ancient wall paintings and murals, which depict Buddhist deities, guardians, and symbolic motifs. These artworks are among the oldest in the region, reflecting the monastery’s deep spiritual and artistic heritage.

Yuru Kabgyat :

The Yuru Kabgyat Festival is a vibrant two-day Buddhist celebration held at Lamayuru Monastery in Ladakh, usually in June. In 2026, it will take place on 13–14 June, featuring sacred Cham dances, rituals dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava and Yama  and participation from monks

Lamayuru Moonland:

Lamayuru’s “Moonland” is a surreal landscape in Ladakh, famous for its lunar-like terrain shaped by centuries of erosion. Located about 100 km from Leh on the Leh–Kargil highway, it’s a must-visit spot for travelers seeking otherworldly scenery alongside Lamayuru Monastery.
