DESCRIPTION:Takthok Monastery is a Buddhist monastery located in Sakti vill
 age about 46 km east of Leh in Ladakh. It belongs to the Nyingma (Red Hat) 
 sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is the only monastery of this tradition in Lad
 akh. The monastery was founded in the 16th century during the reign of King
  Tsewang Namgyal\, around a sacred cave where the Buddhist master Padmasamb
 hava is believed to have meditated in the 8th century.\nThe name “Takthok
 ” means “rock roof”\, because the monastery is built into a natural r
 ock cave and its roof and walls are made of rock. Around 50–55 monks live
  and practice here\, making it an important spiritual center in Ladakh.\nWh

 \nThe most sacred place in the monastery.\nBelieved to be the cave where Pa
 dmasambhava meditated for several years.\nThe interior has a natural rock c

  main prayer hall where monks gather for rituals.\nContains statues of Mait
 reya Buddha\, Padmasambhava\, and Dorje Takposal.\n\n\n3. Murals and Buddhi
 st Paintings\nAncient wall paintings of guardian deities and Buddhist figur
 es.\nSome murals are displayed mainly during the annual festival.\n\n\n4. S
 acred Scriptures (Kangyur)\nThe monastery preserves 108 volumes of Buddha
 ’s teachings\, an important Buddhist scripture collection.\n\n\n5. Taktho
 k Tsechu Festival\nA famous annual festival with masked Cham dances perform
 ed by monks representing the manifestations of Padmasambhava.\nUsually held
